Modern Living Room - Collection 6

Living room with stripes and florals

Give florals edge by juxtaposing them with multi-directional stripes. For coherence, choose papers that subtly complement each other - here, the soft hand-drawn charcoal stripes echo the sketched blooms.

Living room with statement wallpaper

Bold wallpaper defines a lounging area in this modern living room, while grey paint on the adjacent walls creates a work zone, reinforced by the at-odds carpet.

Quirky living room light

A few eccentric pieces do wonders for a small living room. This half-shade lamp, which is made from recycled table legs, sits flush to the wall making it a stylish, wiring-free update on a traditional sconce.

Colourful living room

A velvet button-backed chair gets a zingy twist with a sumptuous throw and cerise cushion. Vibrant violet-painted walls add a dramatic backdrop.

Chocolate living room

A large window and white fireplace lighten the intensity of the brown scheme in this living room, as do the lime and mustard tones of the soft furnishings. The colour of the sofa from Espacio is echoed in the easy chair by Designers Guild and also in the patterned floor cushion and Allegra Hicks rug.

Grey living room

Lead-grey walls and flooring, with a charcoal sofa, set a sophisticated tone. The zesty lime, pink and blue accessories bring the look alive.

Bold living room

Over-sized studding works well with a striking large-print fabric. Here the studs are echoed by the Orb circular mirror positioned on the mantelpiece and again by the black vase behind the chair itself.

Graphic living room

Use a graphic pattern in your living room to introduce a new design trend. This patterned wallpaper is from Harlequin and is contrasted well with our neutral sofa from the Sofa Workshop. The dramatic patterns on the cushions, teamed with a wool throw on the sofa, adds interesting texture to the space.

Bold striped living room

This room proves stripes are not just for traditional, formal schemes - there are plenty of bold, modern designs to choose from. The subtle stripe in this scheme is hung vertically alongside a modern horizontal border created using one width of a broader stripe. The floating shelf hung just below the ceiling level gives an illusion of height in the room.

Patterned living room

White gives colour and pattern a chance to 'breathe'. By keeping the walls, flooring (The Alternative Flooring Company) and sofas (Sofa Workshop) neutral, you can use patterns in the same colour for window treatments, cushions and occasional chairs. A Perspex table from Revival keeps attention on the colour scheme.

Summer living room

Create a summery feel in your living room, with a wall of floral wallpaper from Villa Nova. Keep the colour palette simple with a cream coloured sofa from the Sofa Workshop and mirrored cubes to reflect light from Laura Ashley. The overall bright, airy feel is completed with neutral curtains to allow the sunlight to flood in.

Relaxed living room

Create a relaxed style in your living room, by mixing a neutral coloured backdrop and sofa from Sofa Workshop and pale footstool. Introduce a touch of blue with cushions, floral colour in curtains and texture with a throw from Muskett & Mazzullo.

Floral living room

A floral wallpaper from Romo, contrasted with a wall of plain, bold colour, creates a backdrop full of character. Combine this with a neutral coloured sofa and chairs and dark wood furniture and mirror from Oka.

Modern living room

A Conran Shop wide leather armchair works well against pale blue wall paint from the Designers Guild. More practical than white, the colour lightens the room and increases space. Add pattern to the scheme with a customised wallpaper (Zoffany) screen – ideal for hiding children's clutter quickly, or your home office.

Open-plan living room

Unite an open-plan living space with a seascape scheme of greens and blues. Create depth by layering a range of Oceanic shades, but keep statement furniture, like these palette tables from Lignet Roset and the Hockney chaise by Minotti at European Design Centre, as white as the sand on a tropical beach.
