Bedroom Inspiration

Colourful luggage and an old trunk are practical alternatives to a bench.

Creative couple Susan and William Brinson know colour and composition. Both graduates of the Savannah College of Art and Design, they chose to artfully mix the rough look of their Manhattan loft with feminine bedding and vintage accents.

A fireplace takes bedroom glamour and comfort to a new level.

The subtle layering of pattern and texture keeps this principal bedroom’s lavender accents from feeling too feminine.

Cosy up bedrooms with toasty-warm wool blankets, sumptuous velvet pillows and striped bedding in brown shades from beige to chocolate.

Layers of pale yellow and white adorn the bed.

A mid-19th-century French style bed pairs well with a more contemporary pedestal side table in the 2011 Princess Margaret Showhome.

Wallpaper creates a focal point in this room.

The lower-level guest suite of the 2011 Princess Margaret Showhome offers a private haven, perfect for a young adult. Like most of the furniture and fittings on this floor, the bed, chest and chair are courtesy of Ikea. A bold modern Pierre Frey damask-print wallpaper inspired the room’s raspberry accents.

This room’s charm comes from the play of rough burlap fabric against vintage-style furniture.

Light curtains accent the four poster beds.

This twin bedroom features bedding House & Home designed with fabrics courtesy of Kravet and Primavera. The lampshades in this 2011 Princess Margaret Showhome room were a lucky find at Pottery Barn.

Tailored lighting and rugs grant this room a crisp, preppy air.

Here, designer Scott Yetman created a space that was playful yet sophisticated. "Kids grow up fast, so keep their rooms fun, but not too childish," he suggests. Instead of bringing colour through the bedding, he chose blue bed frames to contrast against the wall panelling.

A humble space, kept simple and cottage-like.

Matching, Chanel-inspired lamp shades with lucite bases offer classic glamour.

Sleek, contemporary and filled with design inspiration.

White painted wood floors and crochet bed coverings layer romance and whimsy into this space.

A warm and inviting neutral with a vintage vibe.

A soothing, cool blue-grey.

A Gothic-style headboard is the focal point of this room.

A polished nickel bed adds sparkle.
